Mako Sharks Swim Club Wins Big at the National Swimming Championship!

On Saturday, November 2, 2024, the RSF National Swimming Championship was held at the Green Hills Academy pool, bringing together 11 clubs from across Rwanda. Among a total of 158 talented swimmers, the Mako Sharks Swim Club emerged as the overall champion, achieving an impressive 3,324.50 points and securing first place.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Ms. Nelly Mukazayire, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports; Felicite Rwemarika, IOC member and representative of the Rwanda Olympic Committee; and RSF President Ms. Cynthia Munyana. Their presence highlighted the support and commitment to growing the sport of swimming in Rwanda.

  2. Vision Jeunesse Nouvelle – 913 points
  3. Kigali Sporting Swim Club – 868 points
  4. Cercle Sportif Karongi Academy – 664.50 points
  5. Les Dauphins Swimming Club – 610 points
  6. Aquawave Swim Club – 548.50 points
  7. Gisenyi Beach Swimming Club – 296 points
  8. Rwesero Swimming Club – 211.50 points
  9. Rubavu Sporting Club – 89 points
  10. Cercle Sportif de Kigali – 27 points
  11. Rwamagana Canoe & Aquatics Club – 9 points


This year’s National Swimming Championship has come to an end, with the Mako Sharks Swim Club emerging as the overall champion! The competition brought together top talent from around the country, with swimmers showcasing incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship in every race.

Throughout the championship, the Mako Sharks Swim Club demonstrated exceptional teamwork and dedication, clinching multiple titles and securing the top spot. Their swimmers excelled across various events, setting personal bests, breaking records, and inspiring everyone with their relentless drive to succeed. The club’s commitment to training, discipline, and unity shone through, making their victory a proud moment for all.


Notable achievements included standout performances in freestyle, backstroke, and relay events, with several swimmers from Mako Sharks dominating the podium. Coaches, families, and fans cheered them on, turning the event into a celebration of hard work and passion.

The championship wasn’t only about winning—it was a celebration of the swimming community and the values of resilience and camaraderie. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mako Sharks Swim Club and all the athletes who competed with such heart and enthusiasm. Each swimmer contributed to making this championship unforgettable, creating memories and setting new goals for the future.

During her speech, Mrs. Mukazayire praised RSF leadership, the coaches, parents, and athletes for their dedication to advancing the sport, especially swimming. She emphasized the Ministry of Sports’ commitment to infrastructure development and pledged support for RSF’s future projects to ensure growth in this field.

Ms. Felicite Rwemarika also acknowledged RSF's leadership, encouraging them to nurture young talent. Representing the Olympic Committee, she promised ongoing support to help young athletes develop their skills, following the Youth Development Program’s efforts in recent years.

RSF President Mrs. Cynthia Munyana expressed gratitude to the attendees, team officials, coaches, parents, players, media, and partners who made the event successful. She encouraged the athletes to strive for excellence, aiming to represent Rwanda in future international competitions.
